The Alma United Methodist Church is a congregation of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. In addition to our congregation here in town, we also have a "sister church" in the Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church with whom we share our pastor and other special events and services. Two churches who share a pastor in the United Methodist Church are called a "charge."
Along with other United Methodists around the world, our church exists to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. All of our members are our ministers, but the professional staff who assists them are:
Allen Hartsfield, Pastor
Rev. Hartsfield graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelor of Arts in Christianity/Philosophy in 1980. He has worked for Grady County Schools as an electrician and obtained a Georgia state electrical license and has taught in the electrical program at Southwest Georgia Technical College. Hartsfield is a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary, completing his Master of Divinity in 2005 and he was ordained as an elder in full connection in 2008. Allen's home church is the Whigham United Methodist Church. As a student pastor, he served the Cairo Circuit (which includes the Friendship/Woodland/Bold Springs churches) from 1999-2006. In 2006 he was appointed to the Morningside UMC in Thomasville, Georgia where he served for nine years. Allen and his wife, Kaye, have two sons, Sam Hartsfield, who lives and works in Duluth, GA, and Jonathan Hartsfield, who lives and works in Athens, GA.
Vicki Vickers, Choir Director
There is not a ministry area that Vicki has not served in our church. Although she continues to serve in many areas of ministry, her official work as a staff person is her work with the music department. Vicki conducts our Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir. She coordinates music planning with the pastor and other guest and special music programs. She has served in the music ministry in our church for many years and maintains an active and ongoing role in the United Methodist Women.
Kiley Griffin, Secretary
Kiley Griffin serves as our church secretary. She came on board the church staff in January of 2015. Kiley and her husband, Daniel, are long-time residents of Alma. Kiley is a graduate of Bacon County High School and where she was an award-winning softball player. She is now the mother of two awesome boys, Caleb and Eli. She and her husband are members of the New Vision Congregational Methodist Church where she is an active leader in the youth ministry. She is a big fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves and despite disdain for spiders and snakes, she loves to go camping. She and her family are avid equestrians.
Brenda Mullis, Nursery Coordinator
Faithfully serving our church nursery for several years, Brenda Mullis has served in various roles in our church for many years. She is a faithful servant of our young children, allowing parents to attend worship services and enjoy the ministries of our church on Sunday mornings.
Chuck Carter, Sound Engineer
Lifelong resident of Bacon County, Chuck Carter serves as our church sound engineer. Chuck has years of experience in managing and producing professional sound for area bands, community theater, and worship services.
